Sesquicentennial Celebration web site. The first official meeting of Salt Lake County
government was held on March 15, 1852.
We’ve come a long way in 150 years. We now operate
over 150 facilities ranging from community pools and parks to the Southtowne Exposition Center.
We also provide hundreds of quality programs and services to the community,
including plowing snowy roads, delivering hot meals to the homebound elderly, and managing
drug rehabilitation programs for those in need.

Did You Know ?
That the first County Courthouse was built on the northeast corner of 2nd South and 2nd West and the contract was awarded on May 12, 1855.
That in 1942 the total budget for Salt Lake County was $2,301,577.83.
That in 1884 the average wage for schoolteachers was less than $50.00 per month for men and less than $30.00 per month for women.
That County government has had six different homes in 150 year history The Old Post Office, the County Courthouse at 2nd S. and 2nd W. the City & County Building on 4th S. and State, the old County Hospital at 21st S. and State, and its current building located on the site of the old hospital at 21st S. and State Street.
